Ankara (Sahan Post): \u2013 In a move to protect its citizens living in Turkey, the Federal Government of Somalia has launched efforts to address concerns over residency and documentation issues faced by Somalis residing in the country. This initiative comes in response to increasing reports of legal uncertainties and challenges surrounding the regularization of stay for Somali nationals in Turkey.<\/p>\n
Fathudin Ali Mohamed, Somalia’s Ambassador to Turkey, acknowledged the difficulties faced by Somalis, particularly in light of recent crackdowns. He stressed that the government was actively engaging with Turkish authorities to ensure the rights and dignity of Somali nationals are upheld.<\/p>\n
During a meeting with Turkey’s Interior Minister, Ambassador Mohamed raised the issue of Somalis struggling with residency regulations, seeking a resolution that would simplify the process for Somali citizens while ensuring compliance with Turkish laws. “We held constructive talks on ways to streamline the residency process and ensure that Somali nationals are treated with fairness and respect in Turkey,” said the ambassador.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur top priority remains to ensure that Somalis abroad are treated justly, in line with the laws of the host country,” he added.<\/p>\n
Ambassador Mohamed also emphasized the long-standing ties between Somalia and Turkey, noting Ankara’s key role in supporting Mogadishu over the past decade, especially in areas of security cooperation. He expressed his gratitude to the Turkish government for its ongoing contributions in education, healthcare, and community development in Somalia.<\/p>\n
Turkey\u2019s commitment to Somalia\u2019s security is further demonstrated by its largest overseas military training center in Somalia, where the elite Gorgor forces are trained, underscoring the strength of the partnership between the two nations.<\/p>\n
“The well-being and rights of our citizens abroad reflect the strength and unity of our nation,” said Mohamed. “Protecting Somali nationals overseas is integral to Somalia\u2019s broader efforts to enhance its global image and diplomatic influence.”<\/p>\n
This initiative comes amid rising concerns over the fate of Somali nationals facing possible deportation or legal complications as Turkey enforces tighter residency rules. The ongoing collaboration between Somalia and Turkey remains crucial as both countries continue to support each other\u2019s stability and development.<\/p>\n
