Garowe (Sahan Post) \u2014 The President of Puntland, Said Abdullahi Deni, has issued a directive banning the possession and movement of unauthorized weapons and unlicensed military vehicles within Garowe, the capital city of the Puntland State of Somalia.<\/p>\n
President Deni said the measure is part of efforts to strengthen security in the capital and ensure that no individual, whether a civilian or government official, carries illegal arms in the city.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnyone who violates the law, whether wearing a government uniform or as a civilian, will face legal consequences,\u201d President Deni said. \u201cWeapons will no longer be allowed to circulate freely in Garowe, even my own security detail must be regulated.\u201d<\/p>\n
The announcement comes as Puntland authorities intensify initiatives to improve stability and public safety, particularly in Garowe, where concerns have been raised about the presence of unauthorized armed guards and illegal firearms.<\/p>\n
Security forces are expected to begin implementing the directive immediately, with the aim of reducing security threats and restoring full control over the movement of weapons within the city.<\/p>\n
