DJIBOUTI CITY – In a significant move to enhance regional maritime security, the coast guard commanders of Somaliland, Yemen, and Djibouti convened a landmark tripartite meeting at the Djibouti Coast Guard headquarters.
The high-level discussions focused on strengthening cooperation to safeguard the shared waters of the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, addressing common threats, and advancing mutual interests.
The commanders in attendance were Admiral Ahmed Hure Hariye of Somaliland, Khalid Ali Mohamed Salah of Yemen, and Wa’ays Omar Boqore of Djibouti. They collectively emphasized the critical need for collaborative efforts to ensure the safety of these vital maritime routes.
Key agenda items included strategies to counter external interference, combat maritime threats such as piracy and smuggling, and maintain secure and clean waterways.
Admiral Hariye highlighted Somaliland’s pivotal role in securing the southern Red Sea and its shared maritime borders. “Our government and coast guard are committed to protecting these waters through robust cooperation, ensuring a maritime environment free from disruption and insecurity,” he stated.
Commander Salah of Yemen reaffirmed his country’s readiness to defend the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden against foreign interference and potential threats. He stressed the importance of constant vigilance to preserve regional stability.
Echoing these sentiments, Djibouti’s Commander Boqore emphasized the shared responsibility of the three nations. “Close collaboration is essential to make the Red Sea a safe and reliable zone for all,” he said, advocating for stronger ties to address evolving maritime challenges.
The summit builds upon existing cooperation frameworks among the three nations, which include ongoing information-sharing initiatives aimed at mitigating security concerns.
This latest meeting follows previous regional engagements, such as a French-organized conference in Djibouti also attended by Admiral Hariye, underscoring a continued focus on the security of this strategic maritime region.
The tripartite commitment signals a unified approach to safeguarding one of the world’s most crucial shipping corridors, reinforcing the resolve of Somaliland, Yemen, and Djibouti to protect their shared waters and promote lasting regional stability.
