ERIGAVO, Somaliland – A landmark peace conference in Erigavo, the capital of the Sanaag region, concluded today with the unanimous adoption of six key resolutions designed to cement peace, unity, and sustainable development.
The resolutions were formally announced by Hon. Osman Ibrahim Nur, Somaliland’s Minister of Transport and Road Development and Chairman of the national Peace Committee. The conference served as a powerful demonstration of solidarity, uniting community leaders and representatives from across Sanaag.
The six resolutions agreed upon are as follows:
1. A Pledge for Peaceful Coexistence: Communities throughout Sanaag, with a particular emphasis on Erigavo and its environs, formally committed to upholding peace and brotherhood to ensure a harmonious environment for all residents.
2. Reaffirmation of Somaliland’s Statehood: The communities of Sanaag unanimously declared their commitment to safeguard their collective security and unity, while also pledging full support for the statehood of the Republic of Somaliland.
3. A Call for Proactive Peace Advocacy: Participants resolved to actively promote the culture of peace and to engage all stakeholders, including those not present at the conference, within the framework established by the President of Somaliland.
4. Urgent Appeal for Development: Recognizing the pressing developmental needs in the region, the conference issued an urgent call for the Somaliland government to accelerate the implementation of critical infrastructure and public service projects.
5. Collaborative Security Framework: The resolution mandates a collaborative security approach, with the Somaliland government taking the lead in ensuring regional stability by working directly with local communities to decisively address security threats.
6. Gratitude to National Leadership: The communities extended their profound appreciation to the President of Somaliland for his unwavering dedication and leadership in laying the foundation for lasting peace and national unity.
