Djibouti Closes its Embassy in Hargeisa

Hargeisa – The diplomatic office that the Republic of Djibouti maintained in the capital of the Republic of Somaliland, Hargeisa, has been completely closed.

The ambassador and the diplomats working at the embassy have all returned to Djibouti. Furthermore, the local staff who were employed at the embassy have been laid off. The embassy’s doors have been shut entirely.

The reason behind Djibouti’s decision to close its embassy in Hargeisa is not officially known. However, reports from Djibouti indicate that the relationship between Somaliland and Djibouti has reached its lowest point.

Services Previously Provided by the Djibouti Embassy in Hargeisa

The embassy offered a full range of services. For the tens of thousands of Djiboutian citizens living in Somaliland, the embassy provided Djibouti passport services, birth and death registrations, residency permits (Djibouti visas), marriage document services, and the authentication of official documents.

It was one of the busiest embassies operating in Somaliland.
