Federal Government Kicks Off Consultations on One-Person-One-Vote Elections in Bakool

Waajid, Bakool – The Federal Government of Somalia has initiated a series of consultative meetings in the Bakool region to advance preparations for the upcoming one-person-one-vote elections.

Leading the efforts, the Minister of Ports and Maritime Transport, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur Jama, launched the consultations in Waajid town. His delegation included officials from the National Independent Electoral Commission.

In meetings with various community segments, Minister Jama emphasized the critical importance of public participation in the democratic process. He outlined mechanisms for conducting a credible and transparent ballot that would allow citizens to directly elect their political representatives.

“The nation is transitioning to a one-person-one-vote model,” Minister Jama stated. “The people of Waajid—elders, youth, men, and women—are prepared to be part of this historic moment.”

He further highlighted that this electoral method is a vital step toward strengthening Somalia’s democracy, ensuring accountable leadership, and building effective state institutions.

Concluding his remarks, the Minister called on communities across the South-West administration to actively engage in and support the country’s ongoing political progress.
