Puntland Authorities Announce Crackdown on Crime, Targeting Militants and Arms Traffickers

BOSASO, Puntland – The Governor of Puntland’s Bari region, Abdirisaaq Siciid Shaahdoon, has announced a series of security operations targeting individuals involved in crime, militant activity, and illicit arms trade.

The announcement details recent arrests and active manhunts for individuals accused of various offenses.

Governor Shaahdoon stated that security forces apprehended several men on the main highway linking Bosaso to other Puntland cities. He clarified that while the detainees identified themselves as khat transporters, they were operating without a valid permit. The governor confirmed that the arrested individuals will face formal legal proceedings.

Furthermore, Governor Shaahdoon disclosed that authorities are pursuing individuals with known ties to ISIS and Al-Shabaab. He expressed frustration that several arrest warrants have been issued, but the suspects have ignored the summonses and remain active with the militant groups.

The Governor also signaled a forthcoming crackdown on illegal arms trafficking, vowing that legal action will be taken against prominent businesspeople involved in the trade.
