President Deni Dismisses Puntland’s Military and Serious Crimes Court Officials

GAROWE, October 29, 2025 – The President of Puntland, His Excellency Said Abdullahi Deni, has issued Presidential Decree No. 09, dated October 28, 2025, ordering the dissolution of the state’s Military and Serious Crimes Court.

The decree, citing Article 80(19) and Article 87 of the Puntland Constitution, comes in response to persistent complaints of injustice from the court’s chairpersons and judges. President Deni’s order also references the need for a comprehensive restructuring of the court’s judiciary and prosecution office.

The decree stipulates the following key actions:

· The Dismissal: All chairpersons, judges, and prosecutors of the Puntland Military and Serious Crimes Court have been relieved of their duties.
· Jurisdiction Transfer: Authority over cases involving serious crimes is now transferred to the Appellate Courts of the Puntland government, pending the establishment of a new Military and Serious Crimes Court.
· Reassignment of Personnel: The former judicial staff of the dissolved court are to return to their original military units.

The decree took effect immediately upon the President’s signature.
