Xingalool (Sahan Post): -Police in Xingalool District, in the Haylaan region of Puntland Somalia, have opened an investigation after an eight-year-old girl was reportedly assaulted in the village of Saaxda Cawo on October 29.
District Police Commander Axmed Xasan said in a statement that three men have been arrested in connection with the incident. The suspects are being held in custody while investigations continue.
Authorities said they have met with the girl’s family and are conducting a detailed inquiry int
o the case. The commander described the incident as uncommon in the area and said that legal proceedings will follow once the investigation is complete.
“Anyone found responsible will be brought before the court in accordance with the law,” Commander Axmed said.
The victim is receiving medical treatment at Garowe General Hospital.
Incidents of gender-based violence and physical assault have been reported in various parts of Somalia in recent months. Local observers have cited ongoing instability and weak social protection systems as contributing factors.
Police said further information will be released as the case progresses.
