Egypt, African Union Discuss Troop Deployment to Somalia Mission (AUSSOM)

CAIRO (Sahan Post): – Egypt and the African Union held talks Saturday on plans for the deployment of Egyptian troops to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), officials said.

The discussions between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf took place on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo.

Talks focused on coordination and planning for Egypt’s participation in the AU-led mission, which supports Somalia’s stabilization and security efforts.

Officials highlighted Egypt’s strategic role in regional security and the importance of strengthening African-led peacekeeping operations. No details were released on the expected number of troops or deployment timelines.
