Mogadishu (Sahan Post) – Two officers from Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) were shot dead on Sunday night in Garasbaaley district, located on the outskirts of Mogadishu, following a dispute with another soldier.
According to security sources, the fatal shooting was carried out by a soldier from the Gorgor (Eagle) commando unit, who opened fire on the two intelligence officers using an AK-47 rifle after a heated argument between them.
Reports indicate that the Gorgor soldier had arrived at the scene in support of a civilian acquaintance who had an earlier disagreement with the NISA officers stationed in the area.
The gunman was wounded during the exchange of gunfire and is currently being treated under police custody at Madina Hospital in Mogadishu. Authorities said he will face prosecution once his condition stabilizes.
Security agencies have also launched a manhunt for the civilian who accompanied the Gorgor soldier and allegedly played a role in triggering the deadly confrontation.
The incident has raised renewed concerns about discipline and coordination among Somalia’s various security forces operating in and around the capital.
