Somalia’s Minister of Agriculture Meets with Iraqi Investors to Explore Agricultural Opportunities

Mogadishu – (Sahan Post) – The Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mohamed Abdi Hayir (Maareeye), received a delegation led by Major General Amjad Al-Awadi, Head of Iraq’s State Fund for Martyrs, which included businesspeople and investors from Iraq.

During the meeting, Minister Maareeye briefed the delegation on Somalia’s vast agricultural resources and investment opportunities, highlighting the country’s fertile land, coastline, rivers, and abundant livestock.

He encouraged the Iraqi investors to take advantage of these untapped opportunities and underscored the historic and brotherly ties between Somalia and Iraq.

Minister Maareeye also noted that Somalia exports high-quality sesame and lemons, reaffirming the government’s readiness to promote broader agricultural investment partnerships.

The Iraqi business delegation, for their part, stated that their visit aimed to explore potential investment prospects in Somalia, particularly in the agricultural sector.
