Mogadishu, Somalia (Sahan Post) – The Federal Government of Somalia on Monday successfully repatriated 165 Somali nationals who had been stranded under difficult conditions in Libya, officials said.
Of the group, 152 were flown into the capital Mogadishu, while 13 others were received in Hargeisa.
Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalan Hadliye Omar, played a key role in monitoring the situation of the stranded citizens and advocating for their release from detention centers and other distressing circumstances abroad.
The latest operation follows an earlier repatriation on October 27, when the government returned 160 Somali nationals who had been evacuated from Yemen.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has intensified efforts in recent months to rescue, support, and return citizens in vulnerable situations across various countries.
On November 13, the ministry announced the successful conclusion of diplomatic negotiations with the government of Togo, resulting in the release of 16 Somali nationals who had been imprisoned there for one year and nine months.
