Gaalkacyo (Sahan Post) – Hours of ongoing protests in the city of Gaalkacyo have resulted in both casualties and property damage after violent clashes erupted.
The demonstrations led to the death of a young man who passed away at Gaalkacyo General Hospital, where he had initially been admitted in critical condition.
For more than a week, women in Gaalkacyo have been staging protests demanding justice for Saabiriin Saylaan, who was killed on the 12th of this month. Her body has still not been laid to rest.
The Gaalkacyo District First-Level Court today opened the preliminary hearing in Saabiriin’s case. Two suspects — Hodan Maxamuud Diiriye and her husband, Cabdicasiis Nuur Xaashi — were brought before the court and are being charged in connection with the killing.
The next hearing is scheduled for Monday, the 24th of this month, when proceedings in the case of the late Saabiriin Saylaan will resume.
