Garowe (Sahan Post): — Puntland has inaugurated its first higher-education program dedicated to journalism, marking a significant step in professionalising the region’s media sector.
The initiative was launched during an event in Garowe jointly organized by the Media Association of Puntland (MAP) and Puntland State University (PSU). The ceremony marked the official opening of the new Faculty of Journalism.
Forty-one media practitioners from across Puntland have been enrolled in the program. The launch was attended by members of government, media experts, civil society groups and invited guests.
Organizers say the journalism faculty aims to strengthen the quality of media in Puntland by producing skilled, professionally trained reporters equipped with modern journalistic ethics and standards. They hope graduates will play a more effective role in informing the public and contributing to the region’s development.
MAP thanked all institutions and individuals who supported the establishment of the new faculty and extended its best wishes to the first cohort of students as they begin their academic training.
