Kismayo (Sahan Post): – Jubaland has today warmly welcomed the first delegation to attend the much-anticipated Kismayo Conference for the Future of Somalia Council. The forum is set to begin tomorrow, December 17, and will run until December 20.
The delegation, led by Secretary of the Somalia Future Forum, Mohamed Aden Koofi, arrived in Kismayo’s airport where they were greeted by Jubaland’s Minister of the Interior, Mohamed Ibrahim Oogle, along with other senior officials.
Minister Oogle confirmed that the conference would officially open tomorrow, emphasizing its importance as a key event in the country’s ongoing political transition. The Minister outlined that the gathering would focus on the finalization of the framework for the Somalia Future Forum and discussions regarding the country’s ongoing transition.
Objectives of the Conference
The Kismayo Forum aims to address the completion of the council’s structural framework and to assess Somalia’s delicate transition phase. The conference also intends to bring together key political players, including those recently joining the Somalia Future Forum, such as former Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon, who was part of the delegation announced in Turkey.
Election Campaigns and Federal Plans
As Somalia’s electoral campaigns intensify, political alliances are rapidly taking shape. A number of politicians have formed coalitions in a bid to secure political power, while the incumbent government is advancing its own plan, which includes pushing for a possible extension of its term or holding a one-person, one-vote election.
However, uncertainty looms over the elections, with no clear consensus yet on the electoral process for 2026. The future of Somalia’s political landscape remains uncertain as the country faces both internal and external challenges in achieving stability and democratic reforms.
