Mogadishu Residents Flock to Polls This Morning

‎Residents of Mogadishu streamed into polling stations this Thursday morning for the long-awaited district council elections across Banadir region’s 16 districts.

‎These elections, which the opposition has criticized as one-sided, feature the participation of 20 political associations. The largest of these is the JSP, led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

‎Approximately half a million registered voters are expected to cast their ballots today at 523 designated polling centers across the city.

‎Security in Mogadishu has been significantly tightened, with restrictions placed on vehicular movement, flights, and educational activities.
