President Hassan Sheikh Casts His Vote in Mogadishu Election

Mogadishu – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, cast his ballot today in the Banaadir regional district council elections, voting at a polling station in the Warta Nabadda district.

‎In brief remarks after voting, President Hassan Sheikh stated, “This is the future of Somalia, which has embarked on a new path. I am confident that they [the opposition] will join this process one day.”

‎The Mogadishu election features approximately 1,600 candidates competing for 390 seats, divided into categories A and B. The candidates represent 20 political associations, the largest of which is the Justice and Welfare Party (JSP), led by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

‎This election, the first one-person-one-vote poll to be held in Mogadishu since 1969, is proceeding in a calm and stable environment. Voting is scheduled to close at 6:00 p.m. local time
