Mogadisho (Sahan Post):- The Federal Government of Somalia has officially received documented intelligence regarding the activities of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) inside the country. In response to what it described as hostile actions by the UAE, the Somali government has annulled all existing agreements with Abu Dhabi—a move officials have characterized as the first phase of a broader national strategy.
The UAE has reportedly played a role in facilitating Israel’s recognition of Somaliland last month. According to Axiosmagazine, citing Israeli officials, Abu Dhabi was instrumental in mediating contacts and providing guarantees related to the agreements exchanged between the parties.
Speaking yesterday, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud reaffirmed that the protection of Somalia’s unity is a non-negotiable priority, stating that the government is prepared to make any necessary sacrifices to defend national sovereignty. He further warned that additional measures may be taken.
Sources indicate that the Somali government is considering the expulsion of diplomats, envoys, business figures, and companies believed to have links with the UAE.
Sahan Post has confirmed that the government’s decision is already being implemented. Following the cancellation of UAE agreements, Abu Dhabi submitted a request seeking authorization for additional aircraft flights intended to transport military equipment. The Somali government rejected this request.
The UAE has since reportedly sought permission for a third country to transport its military equipment. Sahan Post has not yet confirmed whether this request has been approved.
According to verified information, several commercial aviation companies that had operational ties with UAE forces previously active in Somalia are expected to cease their activities.
Meanwhile, commercial agreements involving DP World at the ports of Bosaso and Berbera have entered a new phase. DP World has stated that it will continue operations in Berbera and that the Somali government’s decision does not affect its presence there. Observers note that Berbera is likely to become the focal point of the most intense political and economic contestation in the coming period.
