La´sanod, (Sahan Post):— The Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS), Hon. MP Ali Yusuf Ali “Hosh”, held an important meeting in Laascaanood with senior members of Puntland’s traditional leadership, led by Sultan Siciid Mohamed Garaase.
The high-level engagement brought together key national and regional figures, including the Commander of the Somali Police Force, General Asad Osman Abdullahi (Diyaano), as well as former Puntland Minister Hon. Hassan Shire Abgaal, underscoring the significance of the discussions.
The meeting focused on the overall political and security situation in the country, with particular emphasis on ongoing progress toward stability, peacebuilding, and national recovery. Special attention was given to the critical role played by traditional leaders in fostering social cohesion, reconciling communities, and supporting state-building efforts.
Minister Ali Yusuf Ali “Hosh” highlighted the Federal Government’s commitment to inclusive dialogue and cooperation with traditional elders, recognizing them as vital partners in bridging differences among communities and strengthening national unity. He emphasized that sustainable peace and effective governance can only be achieved through collective responsibility and collaboration between government institutions and cultural leadership.
The traditional leaders, led by Sultan Siciid Mohamed Garaase, reaffirmed their readiness to contribute to reconciliation initiatives and to support efforts aimed at restoring stability and safeguarding the country’s future.
The developments also follow closely on recent events in Las´anod, where military personnel who had defected from Puntland were received and welcomed.
The meeting is seen as part of broader consultations by the Federal Government to enhance cooperation with regional stakeholders and traditional authorities, as Somalia continues its journey toward lasting peace, reconciliation, and development.
The meeting comes at a time of strained relations between the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) and the Puntland administration, with cooperation between the two sides currently at a standstill. Puntland authorities have publicly viewed the Federal Officials’´s visit as an attempt by the federal government to exert influence and interfere in the region’s internal affair
