Las´anod, Somalia (Sahan Post):— The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS), Hon. Hamza Abdi Barre, on Tuesday arrived in the city of Las´anod, the administrative capital of the North Eastern State Administration, leading a high-level federal delegation.
Prime Minister Hamza and his accompanying delegation were warmly received at Las´anod Airport by senior officials from the Federal Government, representatives of the North Eastern regional administration, and large crowds of local residents who turned out to welcome the visit.
Upon arrival, the Prime Minister inspected a guard of honor formed by security forces of the local administration. He also held greetings with federal and regional officials stationed in the city, symbolizing unity and cooperation between national and local authorities.
Sources confirmed that the Prime Minister’s delegation is part of advance engagements ahead of a larger delegation expected to arrive soon, led by the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
The visit, described as historic, comes amid heightened regional and international political developments. It follows recent controversy surrounding a unilateral and limited recognition reportedly extended by the Israeli administration to Somalia’s North Western regions—an action that has been widely rejected by the Somali federal government, regional administrations, and the international community at large, which reaffirm Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
Meanwhile, the Puntland administration has not issued any official statement regarding the arrival of federal leaders in Las´anod. Relations between the Federal Government and Puntland remain significantly strained, with cooperation at a notably low level.
Observers view the visit as a significant political signal, reflecting the federal leadership’s intent to assert national cohesion, reinforce state authority, and engage directly with communities in strategic regions amid ongoing political tensions.
