Deadly Attacks in Lower Shabelle: Armed Groups Set Fire to Gareeri Village

Armed assailants set fire to the village of Gareeri on Sunday, located under the administration of Wanlaweyn district in the Lower Shabelle region.

Reports indicate that the attack resulted in the deaths of a mother and her four children, with additional casualties, including both deaths and injuries, among those caught in the violence.

This incident follows a terrifying event that occurred a day before in the nearby village of Dudumay, on the outskirts of Wanlaweyn, when a mentally unstable man, was burnt- and stornned to death by armed men  with a weapon, this caused widespread panic in the area.

In response to these horrific events, Somalia’s Ministry of Interior has issued a call for peace and condemned the violence, urging all parties involved to cease hostilities in the Lower Shabelle region
