Eritrea Withdraws from IGAD, Accuses the Organization of Failing Its Purpose

Asmara (Sahan Post) – The Eritrean government has announced its withdrawal from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), accusing the regional organization of failing to live up to its founding goals and not working towards the collective good of its member states. Eritrea had rejoined IGAD in June 2023 after reaching an agreement with Ethiopia.

While Ethiopia and Eritrea have each aligned themselves with their respective allies, Asmara claims it has lost support from most IGAD member countries. The two nations, Ethiopia and Eritrea, have been edging closer to a full-scale conflict.
