Laascaanood (Sahan Post):— Leader of Las´anod based Northern Eastern administration, Abdulqadir Ahmed Aw-Ali i (Firdhiye), on Thursday welcomed a contingent of Danab special forces on the eastern outskirts of Las´anod, as security preparations intensify ahead of an expected visit by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
The Danab forces, led by General Jimcaale Jamaac Takar and currently operating as a unit under the Somali Federal Government’s armed forces, arrived from Garowe. Officials said the deployment is aimed at strengthening security in the region amid heightened political activity.
On Wednesday, units of the Puntland Security Force (PSF) also arrived in Laascaanood after traveling from Bosaso, the capital of Bari region. The PSF has likewise been integrated into the federal security structure.
The arrival of federal-aligned forces comes as Las´anod, prepares to host senior national leaders, including President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, whose anticipated visit has prompted increased security measures across the city.
The Federal Government of Somalia has previously stated that forces under its command are stationed in parts of Puntland. However, Puntland authorities have rejected those claims, dismissing them as unfounded, highlighting ongoing tensions and differing narratives over security control in the region.
The developments underscore the evolving security and political dynamics in northern Somalia as federal and regional authorities navigate coordination amid sensitive transitions.
