Former President Farmaajo Warns of Deepening Crisis in Somalia During Meeting in Mogadishu

Mogadishu (Sahan Post) – Former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, who has been in Mogadishu in recent days, held a meeting last night with members of both houses of parliament and other political figures, during which he warned that the country is facing a severely deteriorating situation.

Speaking about the ongoing drought, hunger, and rising cost of living, Farmaajo said Somalia is experiencing a humanitarian crisis comparable to the 1992 famine known as Cagabarar. He noted that many families are now unable to secure daily meals, stressing the urgent need for intervention.

Addressing the Federal Government’s recent decision to reclaim state-owned land, the former president criticized the move as misguided and called for it to be halted immediately.

On the issue of elections, Farmaajo reminded leaders that the current administration has only six months remaining in its term. He urged clarity on the election model and a clear timeline for when the polls will be held.

Meanwhile, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, speaking at the National Justice Forum, appeared to indirectly comment on Farmaajo’s recent activities. He urged politicians and presidential hopefuls residing in Mogadishu to step out of hotels and private residences and engage directly with the public—remarks widely interpreted as being directed at his predecessor.
