Jubaland President Receives U.S. Ambassador in Kismayo

Kismayo (Sahan Post) – Jubaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe) on Monday received the United States Ambassador to Somalia, Richard H. Riley, and a delegation accompanying him during an official visit to Kismayo.

According to the Jubaland Presidency, the meeting focused on security cooperation, the overall political situation in Somalia, state-building processes, and U.S. support for development initiatives in the region.

A statement issued by the Jubaland Presidency said:
“The President of the Jubaland State Government, H.E. Ahmed Mohamed Islam, today received the U.S. Ambassador to Somalia, Richard H. Riley, and his delegation during their working visit to Jubaland.”

The statement added that President Ahmed Madobe was joined by the Minister of Interior and the Minister of Planning & International Relations. The discussions reportedly covered ways to strengthen bilateral collaboration, particularly on security, U.S. support for development projects, the national political landscape, and Somalia’s state-building trajectory.

Kismayo is expected to host a meeting on December 10 organized by the Council for Somalia’s Future, a bloc consisting of Puntland, Jubaland, and the National Salvation Forum. The conference is intended to finalize the council’s internal structure and deliberate on their collective stance regarding the country’s transitional political period, as outlined in their Nairobi communiqué released in October.

Sahan Post further reports that foreign governments and international political actors continue to operate independently inside Somalia, engaging with both federal and regional authorities in pursuit of their respective interests. The outlet notes that last week a U.S. AFRICOM delegation visited Bosaso and Berbera, where they reportedly held autonomous discussions related to establishing military facilities in those areas.

According to Sahan Post, the future of Somalia’s political direction remains uncertain as the Federal Government focuses on its internal political agenda and preparations for upcoming elections.
