Mogadishu (Sahan Post):— Justin Davis, who previously served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Somalia, has officially assumed the role of Chargé d’Affaires, ad interim, effectively becoming the acting U.S. ambassador, the U.S. Embassy in Mogadishu has confirmed.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the embassy said Davis’s mandate will focus on maintaining U.S. diplomatic engagement and advancing American interests in Somalia, in line with the Trump Administration’s America First foreign policy priorities.
“Justin Davis has assumed duties as Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. at the U.S. Embassy in Mogadishu, ensuring continuity of U.S. diplomatic engagement and advancing U.S. interests in Somalia in line with the Trump Administration’s America First priorities,” the statement read.
President Donald Trump recently included Somalia among several African countries from which U.S. ambassadors were recalled, a move that led to the departure of former U.S. Ambassador to Somalia, Richard H. Riley, who was formally bid farewell a day earlier.
The U.S. Embassy in Mogadishu has emphasized that the leadership transition will not affect the United States’ presence or ongoing operations in Somalia. Officials described the change as part of a broader restructuring of U.S. foreign policy under the current administration.
