NISA Captures 11-Member Terror Suspect Network in Major Security Operation

Mogadishu (Sahan Post): — Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) announced it has detained a network of 11 individuals suspected of involvement in terrorism-related activities and clandestine operations in Mogadishu and parts of Lower and Middle Shabelle. According to the agency, the group was allegedly engaged in plotting attacks that could have endangered public safety.

In a statement, NISA said the suspects were trained and prepared by Al-Shabaab to carry out assaults and surveillance missions while attempting to blend into local communities to evade detection. The agency noted that it had been monitoring the network based on comprehensive intelligence, leading to a successful operation during which some suspects were apprehended while engaged in activities linked to terrorism.

NISA confirmed that all detainees will be handed over to the relevant authorities for prosecution, underscoring the importance of decisive action to prevent threats that undermine national security and public safety.

The agency further urged citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with security forces by reporting any suspicious movements associated with Al-Shabaab, ISIS-Somalia, or other extremist groups. Members of the public can use the emergency hotlines released by NISA to share information.
