Puntland Denies Involvement in Sudan Conflict, Accuses Federal Government of Smear Campaign

Minister Dirir

GAROWE (Sahan Post):- Puntland has denied allegations that it is involved in Sudan’s ongoing civil conflict or that flights to Sudan are being operated from Bosaso Airport.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior, Puntland expressed regret over the war in Sudan and reaffirmed its solidarity with the Sudanese people, wishing them peace and stability.

The regional government accused the Federal Government of Somalia of spreading false claims and conducting a “defamation campaign” against Puntland, calling the allegations baseless and politically motivated.

“The Federal Government, nearing the end of its term and having failed in its national duties, has resorted to propaganda, fabrications, and incitement,” the statement read.

Puntland described the accusations as an attempt to undermine its achievements in combating international terrorism, particularly operations against ISIS and Al-Shabaab in the Cal-Miskaad mountains of Bari region. It said such claims serve only to aid terrorist groups.

The statement also alleged that the Federal Government has been secretly recruiting militias inside Puntland, warning that Mogadishu would bear full responsibility for any resulting instability.

Finally, Puntland thanked its international partners — including the United States, UAE, UK, Ethiopia, and Kenya — for their continued support in counterterrorism efforts, as well as the Puntland people at home and abroad for standing by their government
