Dhaadaar, Somalia (Sahan Post) – A high-level Puntland delegation led by the Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Democratization, Abdi Farah Juha, visited recently liberated areas in Bari region on Monday, as authorities seek to assess security gains and accelerate the return of basic services after operations against Islamic State (IS) militants.
The minister was accompanied by State Minister for the Presidency Abdifatah Mohamed Abdinur and Deputy Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Ahmed Said Ismail Qolanbi. The team travelled to Dhaadaar, in Qandala district, an area the Puntland Defence Forces recaptured in their latest offensive against IS cells operating in the region’s rugged terrain.
According to officials, the visit aimed to boost troop morale and evaluate conditions on the ground following the operations. The delegation met local residents to hear their concerns, security priorities and urgent needs—a step Puntland authorities say is part of a broader plan to restore governance and essential services in conflict-affected communities.
While in Dhaadaar, the ministers held talks with Puntland’s Security Minister, Ibrahim Cartan Ismail (Xaaji Bakiin), and Qandala district commissioner Ahmed Yusuf (Khuurshe). Military commanders briefed the delegation on areas cleared of IS fighters and the challenges of preventing their regrouping.
Traditional elders, women’s groups and community representatives welcomed the visit, underscoring the importance of sustained government support and security stabilization efforts to rebuild daily life in the area.
