GAROWE (Sahan Post) — Puntland’s Acting President and Vice President, H.E. Ilyas Osman Lugatoor, on Tuesday received a high-level delegation led by Mr. Antoine Grand, Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Somalia, for discussions on strengthening humanitarian interventions in the region.
According to officials, the meeting focused on enhancing ICRC programs across Puntland, with particular emphasis on communities affected by ongoing conflict, especially in the Calmiskaad area. Both sides agreed on the need for increased emergency relief and sustained humanitarian assistance for drought-affected and displaced populations.
The discussions were attended by Puntland’s Ministers of Humanitarian Affairs, Labour, Agriculture, and senior officials from the Presidency.
The meeting comes at a time when thousands of families have been displaced by intensified fighting in parts of the region, while international donor funding for refugees and internally displaced people has significantly declined, creating growing concern among humanitarian agencies over worsening conditions.
