Somali Defense Delegation Attends Egypt’s EDEX 2025 Amid Reports of Security Cooperation Talks

Cairo (Sahan Post) — Senior officials from Somalia’s Ministry of Defense and the Somali National Army have arrived in Egypt on an unannounced visit believed to be linked to discussions over a potential Egyptian peacekeeping deployment to Somalia. The delegation has meanwhile appeared publicly at a major Egyptian defense exhibition.

Somalia’s Minister of Defense, Ahmed Macallin Fiqi, accompanied by the Chief of the Somali National Army, Gen. Odowaa Yusuf Raage, and other high-ranking military officers, attended the opening of the 4th Egypt Defense Expo (EDEX 2025).

The four-day exhibition is being held at the Egypt International Exhibition Center (EIEC) in Cairo.

Egypt’s President, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, officially inaugurated the event, which has drawn delegations from more than 100 countries and over 450 companies showcasing advanced defense and security technologies.

During the expo, the Somali delegation is expected to hold a series of bilateral meetings with participating leaders and officials on the sidelines of EDEX 2025.
