Somali Parliament Committees Hold Workshop on African Charter for Children’s Rights

Mogadishu – (Sahan Post) – The Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights, Women, and Humanitarian Affairs, in collaboration with the Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and with support from Save the Children, organized a workshop in Mogadishu focusing on the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child.

The workshop brought together representatives from the Ministry of Family Affairs and Human Rights, the Ministry of Justice, and various civil society organizations. Participants discussed key provisions of the African Charter and examined how these articles apply to the Somali context.

Opening the event, Hon. Xaawo Sokor Ali, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights, emphasized the importance of the two-day workshop. She noted that participants would deliberate on the Charter’s main articles and their significance for Somalia’s legal and social frameworks.

The workshop aims to strengthen understanding and implementation of children’s rights in Somalia in line with continental and international human rights standards.
