Mogadishu (Sahan Post): — Somali Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre on Monday paid an unannounced visit to one of the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) centers in Hodan District, Banadir region, where he urged officials to improve service delivery and make the process easier for citizens.
During the visit, Prime Minister Barre expressed concern over reports and social media footage showing long queues and women waiting overnight outside the facility to obtain their national ID cards.
“What we have seen on social media is unacceptable,” the Prime Minister said. “Women should not be forced to come or sleep outside at night. It endangers their safety and is inappropriate. Work schedules must be extended to reduce congestion, and the public must be served efficiently.”
The Prime Minister instructed NIRA management to separate the procedures for registration and card collection so that those collecting their IDs do not have to wait in the same lines as new applicants.
He emphasized that ensuring citizens receive timely and dignified service is a national priority and urged the agency to take immediate measures to enhance efficiency and protect the welfare of applicants.
