Somalia’s Ministry of Education to Complete Plan for 10,000 Government-Supported Teachers

Minister of Education, Culture, and Higher Education of Somalia, Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir

Mogadishu (Sahan Post) – The Somali Ministry of Education has announced that it will soon finalize a plan to support 10,000 teachers through government-funded salaries and professional training. The initiative aims to improve the quality of education nationwide and address the shortage of qualified teachers across various schools.

The Minister of Education, Culture, and Higher Education of the Federal Government of Somalia, Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir, stated that the implementation of the plan—previously pledged by the ministry—is nearing completion. He emphasized that the initiative is a critical step toward stabilizing teachers’ employment and strengthening the country’s education system.

The minister’s remarks followed the participation of the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, in the commemoration of Somali Education Day on November 22, 2025. During the event, the President firmly urged the Ministry of Education to accelerate the completion of the registration process for teachers who are not yet included in the official system.

Minister Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir reaffirmed that the ministry will respond to the President’s directive and will simultaneously roll out a comprehensive training program for all currently serving teachers. He noted that the initiative will focus on curriculum development, enhancing teachers’ professional skills, and the rehabilitation of school infrastructure.

The Ministry of Education stated that these reforms are part of broader efforts to advance the education sector, with particular priority given to areas recently liberated from Al-Shabaab. The goal is to reduce existing educational disparities and ensure that Somali children have equal access to quality education across the country.
