MOGADISHU – Somalia’s Federal Parliament passed the national budget for the 2026 fiscal year in a joint session on Tuesday, authorizing a total of $1.39 billion in government spending.
The $1,386,807,242 budget outlines the financial priorities for the coming year. In a decisive vote, 174 members of the bicameral parliament approved the measure, with four voting against and a single abstention.
Senior officials present at the session emphasized that the budget is structured to bolster state institutions, enhance national security, expand social services, and stimulate economic development across the country.
The budget’s passage is considered a critical step for Somalia’s federal government, central to its agenda for development, national stabilization, reconstruction, and improved public service delivery.
