South West State Requests Federal Government to Hand Over MP Dahir Amin Jeesow

Baydhabo (Sahan Post) – The South West State administration has asked the Federal Government of Somalia to hand over Member of Parliament Dahir Amin Jeesow, whom the regional authorities accuse of inciting inter-clan violence in the Yaaq Bari-weyne area of Lower Shabelle.

South West State’s Minister of Security, Hassan Abdulqadir, told the media that the administration intends to bring MP Jeesow before justice. He stated that they are formally requesting federal security agencies to facilitate the transfer of the MP to South West authorities.

The areas of Yaaq Bari-weyne and Wanlaweyn have recently witnessed violent clashes linked to clan disputes, resulting in significant casualties and disturbing incidents. According to local reports, more than 20 people have been killed, including a particularly alarming case in which a man with mental health challenges was burned to death.

It remains unclear how the Federal Government will respond to the South West State’s request, given that MP Jeesow holds parliamentary immunity. Observers also note that other federal lawmakers have been accused of contributing to the tensions, including MP Sareedo Mohamed Abdalle from Baydhabo, raising questions about why only MP Jeesow is being singled out.
