Sultan Said Issues Peace Appeal Amid Deadly Clashes in Awdal

Sanaag, Badhan (Sahan Post): As deadly clashes continue in Awdal region and the town of Borama, traditional leader Sultan Said Sultan Abdisalan, one of Somalia’s prominent elders based in Sanaag, has issued a peace appeal calling for calm and dialogue.

The conflict, linked to the commemoration of the Ciise clan’s customary law (Xeer Ciise), has heightened tensions between the Samaroon and Ciise communities in recent days.

In his statement, Suldaan Siciid extended condolences to the families of those killed in the Borama violence, praying that God grants mercy to the deceased and healing to those injured.

“I offer my heartfelt condolences to the families and relatives of those who lost their lives in the recent unrest in Borama. I pray that God grants paradise to the deceased and quick recovery to the injured,” he said.

The Sultan urged the Samaroon and Ciise clans to embrace peace, advising clan leaders, elders, and community figures to resolve their differences through dialogue rather than violence.

“I call upon the brotherly communities of Samaroon and Ciise to choose peace. I urge their traditional elders, chiefs, community leaders, and respected figures—who are known for championing peace—to address all issues through negotiation so that further bloodshed is avoided and harmony is restored,” he added.

Sultan Said Sultan Abdisalan, is widely recognized for his efforts in conflict resolution and his role in promoting peace and reconciliation among Somali communities affected by longstanding disputes.
